Homegrown Hollywood Actress Dolly de Leon, whose performance in “Triangle of Sadness” catapulted her to international acclaim, winning awards and earning prestigious Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations is far from complacent. As the world takes notice of her extraordinary talent, de Leon is now moving beyond the initial starstruck and awe with a determined spirit to forge new paths in her career. With a renewed focus on her craft, showcasing a readiness to delve even deeper into the intricate world of Hollywood, she’s rolling up her sleeves and entering her Hollywood Hustle Era.
WHAT’S NEXT IN DOLLYWOOD?
One of the significant international projects ahead is her lead role alongside Nicole Kidman in the second season of the series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” produced by HULU, which can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
“I’m excited to meet Nicole Kidman. I’m also excited to work with Murray Bartlett. Na sobrang, napakahusay na actor. Siya yung sa The Last of Us and sa White Lotus. And marami kaming scenes together ni Murray Bartlett dahil yung character niya at yung character ko magiging close. So excited na excited na ako na makatrabaho siya. Tsaka siyempre si Liv Ullman who is an Ingrid Bergman actress.”
Dolly is also set to appear in the movie “Grand Theft Lotto” alongside a star-studded cast with some notable members being John Cena, Akwafina, Simu Liu, Sean William Scott, and Sam Asghari, who welcomed Dolly with open arms.
“It’s going to be action-packed and funny… So I was very very nervous. Kasi syempre parang first time ko magtrabaho doon so talagang intimidated ako. Pero ang bait-bait nila, they were all so warm…”
The Hollywood actress has recently completed two films that will be featured in a prestigious film festival entitled “Between The Temples” and “Ghost Light.”
“So Between the Temples, I shot that in April in New York. Ang kasama ko doon ay si Jason Schwartzman, and then our director is Nathan Silver. And the other one, which I shot recently lang, mga three weeks ago.. in Chicago naman. Yun yung Ghostlight. That was written and directed by Kelly O’Sullivan. So those are the two films that are coming out next year and there will be an announcement soon in December about which festival is going to come out then.”
SAG-AFTRA AND ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES
Being a global star, Dolly has been exposed in the world of Hollywood in terms of the recent and controversial SAG-AFTRA strike. Dolly believes the Philippine entertainment industry can learn a lot when it comes to this Hollywood phenomenon. She believes that by starting with ourselves and making an effort to treat everyone from the crew to the director the same professional way, we can emulate a world-class environment like the one present in Hollywood in our very own local entertainment scene. She shares that multiple entertainment practitioners are passionate about this in this new generation of the industry.
“…We can never be satisfied on how things are done and there’s always room for improvement. Di pwede yung pwede and sabihin na ‘Ganun naman talaga, hayaan mo na!’,… and we’re doing that through the Eddie Garcia Bill. There are a lot of people who are working towards that goal. It’s not just actors, there are also directors, people in the broadcasting industry, broadcasters, producers, and even writers who are on the same journey as us.”
As Dolly is a trailblazing talent, it is no surprise that she was chosen as the FIRST FILIPINA ACTRESS to be part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the institution that organized the Annual Oscard Awards. This is a huge feat for a homegrown talent like her as this shows that the wisdom that she’s grown over the years has become a valuable asset, even on the international stage.
PHILIPPINE COLLABORATIONS
It was announced last November 21, 2023, in a press conference in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Quezon City that she is now signed with her new artist management team, CreaZion Studios. The Global Actress was welcomed by the officers of CreaZion Studios headed by the company’s CEO, RJ Agustin together with Chief Creative Officer and Vice President Real Florido, Head of Finance Silvia Malupeng, and Chief of Staff Jon Verzosa.
“Buong career ko as an actor no one’s really managed me. I’ve been managing myself. Self-managed talaga ako. No one really takes care of me, but you know I think now is the time for me to have a group of people who have a real love for Philippine cinema. I really feel like I’m in good hands with them. I’m so happy to finally have people who truly care about me not as a product but as a human being kasi at the end of the day I’m an actor. Alam ninyo yun ‘di ba guys? If you’ve followed what’s been happening to me my advocacy is really my craft more than anything else and I really feel I’m in good hands with them.”
With a new management team behind her and numerous projects ahead, Dolly is stepping into her hustle era that promises to elevate her career as a Global actress. Embracing the challenges and opportunities that come her way, she continues to break barriers and make a mark in both Hollywood and the Philippine entertainment scene, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in the ever-evolving landscape of global entertainment.
