A woman dressed elegantly, her makeup and hair perfectly done, confidently walks onto the stage. She performs a new, jazz-infused song, a departure from her usual style. Janella Salvador takes us on a journey, portraying an empowered woman who is sure of her life choices.
Janella Salvador, a name that has been making waves since her acting debut in 2014’s ‘Be Careful with my Heart’, is about to take on a new adventure. Eventually, she led her show, ‘Oh my G!’, graced the Philippine classic, ‘Darna’, and ventured into films such as ‘Haunted Mansion’ and ‘Mano Po 7: Chinoy’. More recently, she starred in the award-winning film ‘Mallari’, released just last year. Now, the anticipation is high as she prepares to share the screen with international star Win Metawin in ‘Under Parallel Skies’, a project that promises to be a new milestone in her ever-flourishing career.
Beyond acting, Janella Salvador discovered her love for singing early on. As a child, she often sang at events alongside her mother. At just 15, she surprised herself with the success of her song ‘Mahal Kita Pero’, which won awards at Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs. Her music career grew from there, with hits like ‘How Far I’ll Go’. From her beginnings singing with her mom to her success today, music has been a constant passion for Janella.
“My music has evolved a lot. If you listen to my first album, it’s mostly girl-pop– very teenager. I love them though, but I feel like along with myself, I matured. So, my music has matured too”, Janella expressed.
As Janella Salvador’s career and outlook on life changed, she began to desire recognition not only as an actress but also as a singer. Releasing ‘Headtone’ marked a return to her musical roots, symbolizing her commitment to staying true to herself. This song reflects her journey of embracing her identity as a singer and expressing stories that truly matter to her.
“Singing and music has always been my first love so, I am really happy I’m able to do this now. I feel like it is something na hindi ko na-prioritize the past few years kasi nga I did a lot of acting stuff, ngayon gusto ko talaga mag-focus sa music”. she added.
Her music hasn’t always been an experience of liberation for her until this new, reimagined era. Here, she feels more assertive and confident about her direction in life.
“I feel my musicality has evolved from before. Ngayon, alam ko na ano ‘yung gusto ko, very hands on na ako sa music ko dati kasi sila na bahala basta kakanta lang ako but now, and from now on everything that you will hear from me, everything that I will put out in terms of music, lahat ‘yan talagang binusisi ko. Right now I am very hands on and that’s the difference”, Janella stated.
In her decade-long experience in the showbiz industry, she has seen the fruition of the ideals she has to achieve, yet there are still goals awaiting realization. Through the highs and lows of her career, she’s been shaped into a Janella who is steadfast in the path she chooses to tread.
“I feel like I’m a lot stronger, I’m a lot more sure of what I want, what I don’t want– a lot more sure of myself. I’m discovering so many more things about myself,” she quips.
With her newfound confidence in her craft in this reimagined era, she not only articulates her thoughts but also reveals more of the artistic side she rarely exhibited in her younger years. Janella, now more assertive and creative, is a woman bound to strive for the best– she never settles for less. Through her recently released music, ‘Headtone,’ she’s rediscovering herself and embracing what she loves most. Her assertiveness in her craft prompts us all to appreciate women asserting themselves in their creative endeavors, as fruition by her co-direction of the music video for her latest release. It’s a testament to the innate capability of women, who have always demonstrated their abilities, that they also can.
