For two years now Adonis Production House has been serving the BAKSILOG experience—a Sunday Drag Brunch show for the community, fans, and allies. They celebrated this milestone on September 15 at Tipsy Pig in Quezon City, featuring drag artists from Drag Race Philippines Season 1 Viñas Deluxe, Brigiding and Season 1 Winner Precious Paula Nicole, Season 2 queen M1ss Jade So, Season 3 queens Maxie, Khianna, Angel, Zymba Ding, Popstar Bench, and Versex.
The ever-curious people that we are, my Editor-in-Chief, Mark Ghosn, and I, went to watch BAKSILOG’s 2nd Anniversary to figure out what makes fans drag themselves out of bed on a Sunday morning and choose to watch Drag. Our initial question before going to the event was, who would’ve thought a drag brunch would still be popping off after two years? A drag show in broad daylight on a Sunday morning? Wild. The show takes brunch to a new level, with drag artists walking on the table, serving looks while you’re being served silog and sipping that bottomless tequila sunrise. It’s giving brunch, but make it iconic.
Drag typically has a nighttime life, but these queens serve it up in the morning, flipping the script completely, like a buttered pancake. Picture this: Brigiding in Chappell Roan while vibing to “Red Wine Supernova.” Imagine a quirky twist—a tub jar with a faucet nestled right down your peepee hole! Glasses are passed around, and she pours the wine down. Queens leap from table to table, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The space feels intimate, imagine Versex taking center stage for karaoke, and, we love that for her! Viñas Deluxe finally nails a split stunt, while the Burakpak girls from Season 3 of Drag Race Philippines perform live over a table in arguably one of the best girl group performances in herstory. The brunch show buzzes with a lively atmosphere, featuring longer production numbers and a flock of supportive allies, especially women.
Let’s face it—this is also perfect for those who aren’t night owls. Not everyone has the energy to spend time late at night. Morning people need their dose of drag too. And so, BAKSILOG exists– the brainchild of Adonis Production, led by Adrian Sevilla, and a crew of creatives, brought this to life. They created a platform for queer artists and gathered a safe space for allies to come through and have a good time.
That’s a BAKSILOG brunch show. We realized it’s the giggles, the random moments, the wild energy, and the sense of community. The reminder that life’s fun, and way better when you’re living it unapologetically, especially in the morning eating your favorite tapsilog while sipping a cocktail of your choice while wishing the stilettos won’t end up in your brunch meal.
